Lorraine Vickery
| Lorraine was born in Flin Flon but moved to Brandon at an early age and
was raised in Westman. She discovered her talent for music when her stepfather
bought a guitar for her stepbrother who played "Old Black Joe" on it and she was
hooked. She listened to all the classic country stars and names Brenda Lee as her
favourite followed closely by Johnny Horton and Patsy Cline. Her Mom was a music teacher for piano and guitar. Her Dad, whom she never really knew as he died when she was very young was a DJ for a Flin Flon radio station. Lorraine plays acoustic guitar and has recently acquired a washboard so will be practicing her bluegrass soon. She has played and sang across Canada in various church groups and in remand centers , aboriginal churches and reserves. She has also played at many seniors homes and made her own cassette tapes to leave behind for the residents. She says that Westman Jams is a great place to feel welcome, make friends and learn different styles of music. We are certainly glad she found us and look forward to her musical stylings at each Jam. |
