MUSICIAN OF THE MONTH

KEN HARMAN
| The Founder of the Birdtail Valley Jamboree which takes place in the
Birtle Valley where he now makes his home, Ken Harman is our newest Musician
of the Month. Ken was born in Paynton Saskatchewan which he says now has about 100 people. He is a former pilot who lived and worked up north and only started a music career as a retirement project. He claims he has only played for about 12 years. He started because he liked country and bluegrass music, had a 12-string guitar but didnt' like it. Someone upstairs must have known that because it got stolen!!. With the insurance money he was able to buy his first dobro. He claims he wandered into a music store and asked for "that guitar with the hubcap on it"! He must be mechanically inclined cause he sure has a way with hubcaps! Ken and his beautiful wife Joy have been married 51 years, have 5 children, 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grands. While Ken has not formally played in a band he has enjoyed sharing his talent with various groups including MOBS and Westman Jams. His quote: "Some of the best friends I've ever made are playing music around the country and in the USA" Yep, we consider him a great friend too!
