MUSICIAN OF THE MONTH

JACK LEWIS

You loved him as a ‘turkey’ in December, and now Jack Lewis is back – this time, as our musician of the month for March.

Born in England, Jack came to Canada in 1953 when he was in his early teens.  Jack had never heard country music before he came here.  He was introduced to the style via a radio that was out in the barn.  So when Jack sings, “I got my education out behind the barn,” he isn’t far from the truth where music is concerned!  He’s loved country music ever since then.

Though he says he used to play the harmonica years ago, it is Jack’s singing which always entertains our crowds. Jack’s vocal talents took shape when he started travelling with a band.  They told him that if he didn’t play an instrument, then he would have to take up calling for dances.  Jack’s been a caller now for over 50 years, which explains why he’s so skilful at songs with challenging lyrics like The Auctioneer

This father of four and grandfather of four lives just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Community Centre in Sprucewoods. If you’re ever at his place, be sure to check out his vast record collection of LP’s and 45’s!

We at Westman Jams sure appreciate not only Jack’s musical talent, but also his volunteerism as a photographer and a ‘go to’ guy during special events.  Put your hands together for Jack Lewis next Sprucewoods jam when he starts, rather than ends circle of musicians!

Not only does Jack sing but he's our resident comedian and also our official Jam photographer!
He flew all the way back from Mexico once to make sure he was at the jam with his trusty camera and
did it all with one hours sleep!

He is also the guy that's responsible for our beautiful banner that you see in the background at all our jams since summer.  His daughter made it at his request and they donated it to us
