FRED MANSFIELD
|
Fred was born, raised, grew up and still lives a few miles east of Forrest MB. He started playing about 1930 as far as he can recall citing his parents as his inspiration. Mom played piano and Dad played fiddle. Fred says that sometimes they would start playing in the morning and still be playing at supper time and suddenly realize they hadn't done the chores yet that day!! Fred plays banjo primarily but also plays accordion, steel guitar and bass guitar. Fred is married to his wonderful wife Betty who travels extensively with him to all his music venues and supports him throughout it all. He has grandchildren throughout the western provinces. Fred plays every Tuesday at the various Personal Care Homes around Brandon and every Friday at Central Community Centre along a group of musician friends. He also travels to Minnesota and North Dakota almost every weekend to take part in one Jam or another. Fred is a true testimonial to the old adage that "Music keeps you young". He is a young-at-heart 93!!! years old.
