MUSICIAN  OF  THE  MONTH

Brenda aka  'Mother'  Hubbard

--written and submitted by Stacey Terry

October’s Musician of the Month is our very own ‘Mother’ Hubbard, Brenda.  Though she’s ‘Mother’ to us all, Brenda has two children of her own, six grandchildren, and lives with her partner Bill in Brandon.  Brenda is an invaluable member of the Westman Jams not only because she’s one of those great gals who rounds up others to keep Reg from being ‘a lonely boy’, but also because of her demonstrated dedication to the Jam through her organizational efforts, computer skills, web site design, and recently, her wonderful performances.

You see, Brenda has finally come out of the closet after more than 26 years (how she played her guitar in there for that long we’ll never know).  She’s attended the jams for the last two years and now, finally, she’s not only a-pickin’ and a-grinnin’ with the rest of us, she’s a-singin’ too!

Brenda claims that she grew up in a community where everybody but members of her family played an instrument.  Though her family liked to dance, no one ever made music, despite her father’s close brush with an accordion one time.  Finally, Brenda picked up a guitar, locked herself in her room, and taught herself how to play.  We’re lucky that she did.  A deserving candidate for musician of the month, Brenda’s ability to conquer those initial nerves and share her lovely songs is an inspiration to others and a long overdue addition to the singers in the circle of Westman Jams.
