MUSICIAN OF THE MONTH

AUDREY FLEMING

Audrey waited a long time to be our featured Musician of the Month. Along with her husband Bill and son Ron, she has a been a member of Westman Jams since its inception way back in 2004.

She started playing music almost 70 years ago when she learned to play Hawaiian steel as a wee girl. She was born and raised in Brandon and studied with the locally famous Albert Johnson.  She then gave it up for a time as a teenager (Don't we all?) but when she met her husband he got her started again and taught her the country beat.  They've been playing together now for over 50 years.

She states that they have a wonderful life together and music is their Number One thing to do together.

Somewhere between all that enjoyment they had not one but two!! sets of twins and are proud parents to 4 children and 8 grandchildren if her counting is correct. Most of the younger generations are also musically inclined. There is some extended family in the picture also.

Audrey also plays trombone and piano.   She was the first ever FEMALE BAND MASTER for the Salvation Army in NORTH AMERICA in about 1947.

Audrey is a very happy person and we all enjoy her steel guitar.  She's a pleasure to have at the Jams and it is a very great pleasure to welcome her as our featured Musician of the Month for May 2006.
